Calligrapher Kayışzade Hafız Osman Efendi was Commemorated in His Hometown Burdur

Calligrapher from Burdur, Kayışzâde Hafız Osman Nuri Efendi, was commemorated on the 129th anniversary of his death, which occurred on Hijri 4 Ramadan 1311/Gregorian 11 March 1894, with programs organized in his hometown Burdur in collaboration with the Presidency of Religious Affairs, Burdur Provincial Mufti's Office, and Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University. The programs, which saw a high turnout from the people of Burdur, were attended by Burdur Provincial Mufti Dr. Enver Türkmen, Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University Vice Rector and Acting Dean of our Faculty Prof. Dr. Mehmet Karaca, as well as the President of the Mushaf Examination and Recitation Committee of the Presidency of Religious Affairs Dr. Hafız Osman Şahin, Members of the Mushaf Examination and Recitation Committee Fatih Okumuş, Sedat Aydınlı, and Calligrapher Fatih Ergül.

The programs, which were also attended by the descendants of Kayışzâde, began with a Qur'an Feast program held at Burdur Ulu Mosque after the tarawih prayer on 26 March 2023. Subsequently, on 27 March 2023, a panel was organized by the Burdur Provincial Mufti's Office at the Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University Conference and Exhibition Hall. The panel, which started with a recitation of the Qur'an, continued with a musical performance. In the panel chaired by the President of the Mushaf Examination and Recitation Committee of the Presidency of Religious Affairs Dr. Hafız Osman Şahin, presentations were made by faculty members from Marmara University Faculty of Theology Prof. Dr. Fatih Özkafa, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Muhammet Abay, and Research Assistant Naci Demirci, Director of Beyazıt Manuscript Library Mehmet Arif Vural, and Deputy Director of Burdur Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism Researcher Writer Osman Koçibay. The panel, where valuable information about the life and calligraphy art of Kayışzâde Hafız Osman Efendi was shared with the audience, concluded with thank-you speeches by Burdur Provincial Mufti Dr. Enver Türkmen and Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University Vice Rector and Acting Dean of our Faculty Prof. Dr. Mehmet Karaca. Following the panel, the exhibition featuring exact replicas of Hafız Osman Efendi's handwritten Qur'ans was visited by the participants. In memory of Kayışzâde Hafız Osman Efendi, Prof. Dr. Fatih Özkafa and Director of Beyazıt Manuscript Library Mehmet Arif Vural provided a visual treat to the participants by demonstrating the writing of the Mushaf.
