Due to the fact that beauty and aesthetics are one of the most important dimensions in the presentation and representation of religion, the Turkish Religious Music main science branch, which represents the voice of Islam with a loud tone and adds harmony to the verses of our six-century-old Classical literature through composition, was opened in our faculty in 2020 within the Department of Islamic History and Arts. It strives to contribute to the development of the musical understanding and taste of our students and people with religious music lessons, especially in our university and city, as well as concerts with classical, folk, and especially religious music repertoires.
In the Turkish Religious Music main science branch, the role of our music in Turkish civilization in the pre-Islamic and post-Islamic periods, the works presented in theoretical and practical terms in Turkish music, the lives and arts of prominent musicians, the role of music in reading the Qur'an beautifully, examples of religious music that have reached today, and the types of music performed in mosques and tekkes are examined.
Thanks to the religious music program in which our students will be educated, they learn the subtleties of Turkish music and attain basic level note knowledge, acquire a repertoire from religious music classics, have the opportunity to develop their skills by getting acquainted with Turkish music instruments, and graduate as valuable carriers of our own spiritual values and culture, equipped with the musical equipment they will need in their professional lives.
